10lb woman

A elderly woman walks into a bank in London and asks for the loan officer. She says she's going to Canada for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000.

The bank officer explains that the bank will need some kind of security for the loan, so the lady hands over the keys to a new Rolls Royce parked on the street in front of the bank. She has the title and everything checks out, so the bank agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan, and off she goes.

The bank's president and its officers later enjoy a good laugh at the lady for using a $250,000 car as collateral against a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then proceeds to drive the Rolls into the bank's private underground garage, and parks it there for safe keeping.

Two weeks later, the lady returns from her trip, repays the $5,000 she borrowed along with the interest, which comes to 10 pounds sterling. The loan officer says, “Miss, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are indeed a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multi-millionaire. Why would you bother to borrow $5,000?”

The lady smiles and replies; “Where else in downtown London can a person safely park their brand new Rolls Royce for two weeks for only 10 Pounds?!”

Points To Ponder

On Being British
A British daily newspaper ran a contest asking its readers "What does it mean to be British?" Here is the winning response:

"Being British is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, then traveling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV. And the most British thing of all is being suspicious of anything foreign."
